Cabin Pressure Which One For Your Cruise

Sunday 30 August 2009

For three
five
seven or however many days
the ship’s cabin will be your second home. Depending on your plans for rest and relaxation
you might want to give some thought to your choice of cabins. If you plan to be on the go
go
go and partake of all the ship has to offer
then pay for the cheapest cabin rate. After all
you will only be in your cabin to sleep and change your clothes. However
if you need to be alone and plan to huddle in your cabin at times
reconsider your options.

All cruise cabins are created for comfort with a sensible design where you can move with ease. Nonetheless
all cruise cabins are not the same. Your normal
average cruise ship cabin is going to be smaller that what you would find at some landlocked hotel. To compensate for the size
cruise lines spoil the passengers with mints on their pillows
shampoos
bath gel
fluffy robes and other amenities.

The cruise ship cabins were designed to make the best of the least amount of space possible. Sure some cabins have more room than others
but in any case
not a square inch is wasted. The cruise literature depicts a roomy cabin but that is just trick photography. The furnishings are utilitarian
but attractive. There is often a queen or king sized bed that could be broken down into twin beds if you were traveling with a companion other than a spouse or significant other. A closet or wardrobe is also in the cabin with a desk
bathroom
shower and chair. Depending on the size of your cabin
you might even have a little nook with a small couch and table.

Inside cabins tend to be the most economical. If you do not mind not having any windows or portholes to see outside
then this might be the choice for you. Inside cabins are usually about the same size as the outside cabins. It does tend to be darker when you have an inside cabin
so keep that in mind.

Outside cruise ship cabins have a window or a few portholes
which allow the sunshine to come into your cabin. If you are susceptible to claustrophobia and the thought of an inside cabin with no window gives you the shakes
book an outside cabin.

If enjoying the ocean views in the privacy of your own cabin is a must
consider booking an outside cabin with a balcony or terrace. This option is pricier
but it gives you a private view of the ocean with your own little deck.

If you have the expendable cash and want the “ooh-la-la” factor
consider the cruise ship suite option. Just picture the usual amenities along with some excess square footage. You definitely have room to maneuver! You’ll have extras like a mini-refrigerator and a private veranda.

The only thing about booking a cabin is that you cannot pick what part of the ship you want. You pay the going rate for the kind of cabin you want and hope for the best when it comes to its location like being near elevators or the bow are of the ship. If you are worried about seasickness
request a cabin on the lower decks. You may not be able to be accommodated
but it never hurts to ask. Just remember to keep in mind why you are on the cruise in the first place. Choose the best type of cabin for your needs and enjoy your cruising experience.

Brooklyn New York Opens Its First Cruise Ship Port

ฉ 2006
All Rights Reserved

In 2003
New York announced the grand opening of a new alternative port for cruise lines. Because ports in Florida were becoming more and more crowded
additional docking facilities in interesting cities on the Eastern Seaboard were needed to provide cruise lines with a new home port. The port has been wildly popular. So much so that another has been added in nearby Brooklyn.

The Red Hook terminal in a neighborhood in Brooklyn opened in April 2006 and welcomed its first permanent resident
Cunard's Queen Mary 2 (formerly docked in Manhattan). Located on the Buttermilk Channel
the Brooklyn terminal gave the first increase in New York cruise ship pier capacity in over 30 years. With the likes of Cunard and Princess cruise lines as eager residents
the terminal has already become a success. Most other major cruise lines have also assigned vessels to sail from Brooklyn.

Princess Cruise lines will launch the Crown Princess from the Brooklyn dock in June 2006 for a Caribbean cruise. From June to October
Princess will offer numerous Caribbean tours
including calls on ports in popular destinations such as the Virgin Islands
Grand Turk and Jamaica. Star Princess will begin cruises from Brooklyn in October 2006 visiting ports up and down the New England and Canadian seacoast.

But Brooklyn? It doesn't seem like the most exciting location for a cruise ship port. On the contrary. While not normally publicized as a vibrant city with plenty to do
Brooklyn offers cruisers an opportunity to spend a few days in New York before or after their tour.

Very similar to Manhattan
Brooklyn offers a trendy nightlife as well as diverse cultures and eclectic cuisine. Bars
clubs and restaurants line the streets
offering a tremendous variety of options for visitors and locals alike.

If culture is your thing
Chinatown is always a wonderful experience. In addition
Flatbush offers the largest Caribbean population in the United States. In either place
you'll delight in the authentic sights
sounds and tastes on every corner.

With spectacular views of many popular attractions
including the Brooklyn Bridge and the Statue of Liberty
the Red Hook terminal also offers exciting options for sightseers. However
New York City is just a short cab ride away and opens a virtual treasure trove of attractions
shows
museums and affairs.

Overall
Brooklyn offers greater value (with lower rates on hotels) and a central location
making it a wonderful choice for both vacationers and the cruise lines. If New York is closer for you than Florida
or if you've been longing to visit the Big Apple
consider booking your next cruise from the Red Hook terminal in Brooklyn. Your travel agent will have a complete listing of which cruise lines sail from Red Hook and the destinations available.

Booking A Cruise Vacation

Saturday 22 August 2009

Cruises are the most versatile of vacations no matter what your age. Not only that
it's a great way to bring the whole family but still have time alone with your spouse while the kids-only activity coordinators take charge of your children's fun.

The first step to putting together a great cruise vacation is to find yourself a travel agency that specializes in cruises
or to book directly through a cruise vacation Internet site.

Before you contact the travel agent though you need to determine when you're going
where you're going and from which port you'll depart and to which you'll return.

There are some seasonal rules of thumb about your destination. If you're limited in the time of year you can get away then you're also somewhat limited in your destination. You can't
for instance
cruise the Kenai Peninsula of Alaska any time during the summer. Europe has about the same seasonal restriction as well. If you're planning on heading out in the spring or fall you might want to consider an excursion up and down the Panama Canal. Just about any time of year
including the winter
you can cruise to Asia or the Caribbean.

Determine who is going to go with you. Knowing if children or seniors will be a part of your vacation group will effect which trip offers the best choices of entertainment for your party. In fact
it's best to gather everyone together
or conduct a phone or e-mail discussion of what everyone wants to do. You need to know if crafts are important; how many are going to lounge by the pool; who wants to get off and explore at the first land stop; who prefers exotic locations and who'd rather just play shuffleboard.

The size of the ship can be important as well. Larger ships have a vast variety of entertainment options
such as dancing and stage shows
although smaller ships may provide a lower guest to staff ratio
and thus more personal attention to your needs.

Know how much you and the others can spend. If money is a critical factor look for discounts for booking early
or starting out on a different day or different week from your original request. Staying flexible can save you considerable money. Ask about port fees as well. These are not usually included in the quoted cruise cost and may cost you dearly. You'll also be expected to tip room stewards and wait staff.

If you're not going as a large group and you might be interested in getting to know your fellow passengers then be sure and inquire about the usual demographics of these travelers. If you're 20 something and it's a baby boomer cruise you're apt to be bored. If you bring your grade schoolers and most of the other kids are in their teens they won't have enough playmates and you'll be their entertainment for the extent of the cruise.

One very important inquiry to make of your travel agent as well is the formality of the cruise that you're considering. If you show up with a suitcase full of swimsuits
shorts and sunscreen only to find out formal dress is required at dinner you're going to be embarrassed or hungry the entire excursion.

Book A Cruise For Less

So you’ve always wanted to take a dream cruise vacation. Maybe it’s one of those things that wound up on the back burner
but you’ve started to believe that you just won’t be able to save up the money to take yourself and the spouse
or the whole family
on such a trip. Think again.

The cruise industry is growing faster than ever
and with this huge expansion comes more opportunities to save money on special cruise deals. With more vacationers taking to the seas cruise lines are growing larger and can afford to offer special discounts to customers to get more people hooked on this luxury style of vacationing. Those looking for a cruise vacation can make a few smart decisions and save themselves a lot of cash without much sacrifice.

The first step is to look into theme packages. Many cruises offer special discounts for certain lifestyles or age groups. There may be a family discount
a golden years discount
or a honeymoon discount available. Depending on what type of cruise you want and who’s going with you
this can be a huge money-saver if you’re willing to accept what is offered in the packaged deal.

When it comes time to book your cruise
believe it or not
don’t be too hasty. Many cruise lines receive unexpected cancellations at the last minute
and are eager to fill the empty slots. A would-be vacationer can often get extremely good deals if their schedule allows them to wait until the last minute to book. Call a cruise line days before a ship sets sail
and you might be pleasantly surprised by what you hear regarding discount rates for last-minute trips.

If you find a cruise line that you like
consider booking any future cruise vacations with the same line. Many cruise lines give discounts to repeat customers and you will probably receive a good percentage off your rate if you book a cruise at the same time each year with the same company. Talk to a travel agent who specializes in cruises. Often these agents can get you deals as well
especially with cruise lines they book often. By booking through an experienced travel agent you may earn the instant right to be a preferred customer.

Finally
do your research! There are many sites online for discount cruise fares
just as there are for airfares and other types of travel. Some websites specialize in locating cheap cruises for those who wish to vacation on a budget. Make use of a search engine
and don’t get discouraged… your cheap cruise is out there somewhere. The trick is using resources and a little brain work to find it.

Biggest Cruise Ship For 6400 Friends

Thursday 20 August 2009

Miami-based Royal Caribbean International
the world's second-largest cruise line
announced on February 6
2006
that it had ordered the largest and most expensive cruise ship in the world
a $1.24 billion vessel which can hold up to 6
400
passengers. It is to be named Project Genesis.

This ship
which is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2009 by shipbuilder Aker Yards of Oslo
will be 220
0
gross register tons. A gross register ton
a standard measure of a ship's size
is a unit of volume equal to about 100 cubic feet. It is to be built at a Finnish shipyard.

Aker is to be paid 900 million euros ($1 billion) to build the ship
making Project Genesis the most expensive ship ever ordered in the history of commercial shipbuilding. The $1.24 billion figure includes all expenses required for interior finishing of the ship. Royal Caribbean contract with Aker includes an option for a second ship.

Richard Fain
the chairman and chief executive of Royal Caribbean said of Project Genesis
It is exhilarating to take such a giant step into the future. Project Genesis truly is a remarkable ship. Its bold design, daring innovation and technological advancements will delight our existing customers and help us draw in new ones.

Aker Yards Finland currently builds Royal Caribbean's "Freedom" class vessels. However
the Project Genesis ship will be 43 percent larger than the present recordholder
Freedom of the Seas
which is currently under construction and scheduled to be finished by April 2006.

The biggest ship currently in operation is the Queen Mary 2
at 151
400
gross register tons. It is owned by the Cunard Line
a unit of the Carnival Corporation
which is the world's largest cruise ship company. The British-registered liner is 1
132
feet long
more than 236 feet high
and can hold 2
620
passengers. The QM2 is capable of crossing the North Atlantic at a speed of 30 knots. The 14-day 2004 maiden voyage from Southampton
in southern England
to Fort Lauderdale
Florida on January 12
2004
was completely sold out months before departure.

The QM2 has 17 decks which hold five swimming-pools
sweeping staircases
a grand ballroom
a 360-degree promenade deck and many luxury shops. Cunard Line built the ship in hope of reviving the glamour of ocean liners
whose mystique has largely been dispelled since jet travel made trips across the Atlantic routine.

A one-way passage from Southampton to New York ranges from $1
817
to $28
0
per person
depending on the type of cabin selected
as well as a daily service charge.

The original Queen Mary was launched in 1934 at Southampton by the queen's grandmother -- Queen Mary
wife of King George V. This ship was slightly more than half the size of the new model. In the second World War
both the Queen Mary and its sister ship
Queen Elizabeth
were painted grey and served as troopships
since they were fast enough to outrun German U-boats. Winston Churchill later stated that the military use of these two ships shortened the war by a year.

The ship was retired in 1967 and sold to private investors. It is now docked permanently as a seaside hotel in Long Beach
California.

The QM2 took the title of world's largest cruise liner from Royal Caribbean's 1
20
foot-long Liberia-registered "Voyager of the Seas
launched in 1999.

As a sign of just how much passenger ships have increased in size during this century, the QM2 is three times the size of the Titanic, which at 46,300 tons and 800 feet was called the
largest movable object built by man" when launched in 1911. However
all the giant cruise ships are comparatively tiny compared to the largest of all ships - a 564
700
supertanker Seawise Giant built in 1979
and now called Jahre Viking.

A ship still in the planning stage would dwarf all current sea-going vessels : the Freedom Ship. It is essentially a plan for a floating city
a giant barge that would slowly circle the globe every 2-3 years. At 4
320
feet (1
317
meters) long
725
feet (221 m) wide and 340 feet (103 m) tall
the ship is taller than the length of a football field and wider than two football fields put together.

It would hold 18
0
condominium units for full-time residents ranging from $180
0
to $2.5 million
including a small number of premium suites priced up to $44 million. 3
0
commercial units for vendors would also be offered in a similar price range. For part-time residents
there will be 2
400
time-share units and 10
0
hotel units. It will also hold a casino
a ferryboat transportation system
a medical facility offering both Western and Eastern medicine as well as preventive and anti-aging medicine. A landing strip for small jets will cover the top. An onboard school will give students a chance to take a field trip into a different country each week for academic purposes or to compete with local schools in sporting events. There will also be an International Trade Center to give on-board companies and shops the opportunity to show and sell their products in a different country every week. More than 100 acres of outdoor Park
Recreation
Exercise and Community space have also been planned.

Norman Nixon
who developed the idea for the massive ship
has estimated it will take approximately three years to complete once construction begins. So far
this ambitious project has not been able to attract sufficient investment funds to get off the drawing board.

The fact remains that over 90% of cruise reservations are done through a travel agent
and you’re not only at the mercy of their service fees
but also to the prices they charge for a particular cruise and sailing. So why do so many individuals go through this booking avenue
when they know the deals are far better online
and they have access to a computer and the Internet?

The answers simple! The cruise industry believes that customers new and seasoned may not truly understand the cruise ships industry language
or feel comfortable booking online! They put their dependency on many travel professionals to interpret the cruising lingo that is the integral part of the cruise booking process.

However
if you take the time to learn and understand the cruise lines language such as guaranteed staterooms

which specialize in selling cruises
and offer a unique booking engine that can quickly put together your cruise package in minutes.

Why go through these online cruise specialists

With online travel suppliers and Internet cruise company’s

Been There Done That Cruising Tips From Seasoned Travelers

Tuesday 18 August 2009

If you are cruising for the first time – congratulations! You are in for a unique
worthwhile experience. As a newbie
though
you probably have questions about some of the do’s and don’ts of traveling aboard a cruise ship. Luckily
there are many die-hard cruisers who are happy to share some tips to make your first time more rewarding.

Before You Leave Home:

Have a friend or neighbour take in your mail daily. Accumulating mail is a big sign to thieves and other troublemakers that no one is home. You could also have your mail held at the post office until you return.

Set your lights on timers so that it appears someone is home to deter troublemakers. Tell your neighborhood community patrol to make a few extra passes by your home while you are away.

Preprint labels and stamps if you plan to mail postcards out while you are on your cruise. This saves some time and you won’t have to lug around an awkward address book.

Money Matters:

Stock up on traveler’s checks since they are replaceable if lost or stolen. To expedite the replacements should your traveler’s checks be lost or stolen
write down the serial numbers and put them in a safe and separate place. That way
it makes the bank’s job a little easier and speed up the process for your replacements.

Keep a handy supply of small denominational bills
usually one’s and five’s. Tipping is appreciated for porters and stewards at both the airport and docking pier of the ship. This is especially important in foreign countries. Horror stories abound about stolen or “lost” bags that never make it to the ship. Sometimes
you have got to grease their palms with cash. It’s a small price to pay for having your clothing and toiletries aboard for your cruise.

To avoid long lines at the end of your cruise
check out your ending invoice on your account. Check for any errors and resolve them as soon as possible. There is no sense adding the stress of standing in line to pay your final tab after you just had a relaxing vacation.

Take a few rubber bands with you to wrap around your wallet. The rubber will “grab” onto your clothing. This makes it very difficult for a pickpocket to part with your wallet without you feeling it.

Kid Stuff:

If you are traveling with babies or toddlers
paper throwaway bibs are perfect for protecting your child from stains and messes at meal times
thus prolonging the wear of their clothing.

Bring a collapsible stroller for your young child. The cruise ship is a happening place and before long you will hear the strains of “I’m tired! Carry me!” This is exhausting to parents. With a stroller
you can just pop your kid inside and roll on.

Pack a few portable
self contained snacks for your child like peanut butter or cheese crackers. These will come in handy and are much cheaper than buying some once you are cruising or at port.

Odds and Ends:

Throw inside your suitcase a few of those annoying plastic shopping bags that you usually get from the grocery store. These are handy for storing dirty clothing.

If you have an inside cabin
take a nightlight with you. Darkness is not fun when you are in a strange room. No sense running into walls or stubbing your toe if you can avoid it. Little maglight keychain flash lights are handy too.

Bring a little first aid kits for those minor emergencies. Wet wipes are handy too for those instance were a sink isn’t handy.

There are literally hundreds of cruise tips that can save the sanity of newbie travelers. Think of those little shortcuts or ideas that you use at home. Decide if they are adaptable to the cruise ship. The less you have to worry about
the more relaxed you will be after your cruise.

Be Afraid. Be Very Afraid Matey the Origin of Pirate Flags

Although the origin of the pirate flag is unknown
it is generally thought that it was invented to strike fear in the hearts and minds of their enemies. The pirate flag
or “Jolly Roger” as it often called
was likely intended to scare their potential victims into a speedy surrender.

The origins of the name “Jolly Roger” are difficult to establish. It is likely derived from the fact that devil was often referred to as “Old Roger”
and so the flag suggested the wrath of the devil. The classic skull and bones design was also often used in the Captain’s log to indicate the death of a sailor. This flag was an important part of the pirate’s armory
and is considered one of the earliest forms of psychological warfare.

In popular legend
it seems that every pirate flag consisted of a skull above two crossed bones. This was generally not the case
as the Captain and his crew often wanted their own flag. While it is true that most pirate flags had the skull and crossbones on them
they often had other images such as skeletons
swords
hourglasses
goblets
and hearts.

One of the most famous pirates was “Black Bart”
otherwise known as Bartholomew Roberts. He was originally from Wales
and in his 4 year career captured well over 400 ships and accumulated incredible wealth. It is said that he was a brilliant
fearless
and innovative seaman. His fleet scoured the seas looking for treasure
and he inspired fear and dread in governments and citizens alike.

The governments of the Caribbean islands of Barbados and Martinique were keen to see an end to his seafaring activities. In 1720
“Black Bart” captured the governor of Martinique and hung him from the mast of his ship. The flag he would fly represented the personal vendetta he had against the islands and its inhabitants. His flag consisted of an image of a man (presumably Bart) with a flaming sword in hand
standing with a skull under each foot. The letters “ABH” and “AMH” were inscribed under the skulls
and stood for “A Bahamian’s Head” and “A Martinicans Head”.

Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Antarctic Cruise - An Adventure Vacation For Everybody

If you really want to get away from it all
think about a cruise to Antarctica.

Underneath the ice at the South Pole is a land mass that used to be much nearer the equator
where it was forested with a normal variety of animal life. AS the continent drifted south
at a rate of centimetres a century
the species living there evolved to cope with the changing climate.

Those animals still live there. The continent
or at least the Southern Ocean surrounding it are teeming with wildlife. This is the only place on Earth where wild animals have not learnt to be afraid of humans
meaning that you can get really close to these animals in their natural habitat.

This area may not be inhabited by many people but there is an enormous variety of wildlife
including various species of whales
seals and sea-lions. You will see Rockhopper penguins
Magellanic penguins
Adelie
Chinstrap
Gentoo and King penguins. For those interested in flying birds there are Albatross
Kelp Gulls and Terns.

Most people are interested in seeing Orca
killer whales
and this is certainly an impressive species
especially when seen in family groups.

An Antarctic cruise will enable you to see the Antarctic coastline and visit some of the islands of the Southern Ocean. Many of these islands have only a very small human population
others are uninhabited (by people anyway.) The silence away from the ship is simply stunning.

Visit the graves of some of the early Antarctic explorers such as Shackleton and venture amongst the islands and icebergs in a Rigid Inflatable Zodiac Boat (RIB).

That's just the activities OFF the ship. Of course you have the normal exciting cruise ship lifestyle on board
with all luxuries available. No ordinary cruise this
though. You will have so much to tell people when you return home from your out of the ordinary holiday to the Earth's least known continent at the end of the world.

Answers To Money And Shopping Questions While Cruising Europe

Money matters can be confusing when traveling but maybe this article will help you out.
We always take lots of single and five dollar bills with us on every cruise. They come in handy for taxis
tips for tour guides
tips for the staff
and little souvenirs at craft shops. They are handy if you run across a bartender on the ship that is really treating you well.

Europe has now changed to the Euro in many countries making it easier to travel from country to country. The countries that are now using that currency are: Austria
Belgium
Finland
France
Germany
Greece
Holland
Ireland
Italy
Luxembourg
Portugal
Spain
Andorra
Monaco
San Marino
The Vatican
Martinique
Guadalupe
Montenegro
and Kosovo.

Thanks to the miracle of the ATM machine
it is now easier that ever to get money in foreign countries. Use your ATM card in the machine to get the appropriate amount of money for the days you will be in each country. This eliminates carrying lots of Traveler’s Checks but take a few in case of emergencies. Never carry big wads of money no matter where you travel. It makes you an instant target.

Always keep in mind that you will be unable to reconvert coins so spend them liberally. It will be necessary to know the exchange rate so you can figure out how much you will need. If you are doing a cruise in the British Isles you may make three stops in Ireland so plan for three days of the local currency if you don’t want to keep finding an ATM machine.

If you are cruising around the Caribbean
every merchant takes dollars and credit cards
I recommend using Credit Cards. If you don’t use the above suggestion about using the ATM’s the ship will provide a service to change dollars into Euros or any other currency necessary. You should have some of the local money for buying small items such as soft drinks or a snacks
tips or local craft items. Any other purchases should be charged to your credit card because this protects you if there is something wrong with the item or it is not what it is purported to be.

The very best way to find out where the good shopping is
ask the crew. Some of the shops actually “sponsor” the cruise lines shopping lectures. The cruise lines will receive a commission from the stores they recommend. It’s a great big commercial to a captured audience
but if there is a problem the cruise lines will stick to their policy and get you a refund. So it’s a matter of comfort level
go on your own if you think you are savvy enough or go with the cruise lines recommendation to be safe.

The days at sea the cruise the ship’s boutiques will have “sales” so wait until then to see if what you want has been reduced.

If you know what you want to buy when you are cruising
check out the costs at home before you go
including the discount stores. Sometimes you can get a better deal at home with the comfort of knowing it’s returnable if it is defective.

If you buy perfume open the sealed box before you leave port to make sure the perfume has not evaporated. At one of the islands we visited I purchased some perfume and just out of curiosity opened it when we returned to the ship. The seal was still it tact but the bottle was three quarters empty. Since we were still in port I was able to return it to the store for another bottle.

I’d like to add just a word on traveling to different ports everyday and credit cards. When we were traveling in Europe I purchased several things in different ports on different days. By the third day the credit card company would no longer honor my card because they were suspicious of theft. For that reason
I always carry two credit cards and make sure both companies know I will be traveling extensively. This is a very good tip to know.

Follow this money and shopping advice and you should get along fine no matter which country you visit. Happy Cruising.

An Introduction To Bermuda Cruises

Monday 17 August 2009

If you are planning a cruise to Bermuda
there are certain important things which you must keep in mind. If you have not been to Bermuda before
bear in mind that it is not a big island. In fact
it doesn't take more than 24 hours to walk across the whole island.

Bermuda is around 120 miles north of the Caribbean Sea. It has a mild climate even during the winter months. Cruises to Bermuda are generally available between April and late October. There are certain cruises which keep on making trips until the end of December. However
they are relatively rare.

Your cruise ship could land in any one of the three ports at Bermuda
though it is most likely that you would stop in the port of Hamilton
as it has two shipping berths. It may happen that you visit more than one port on your Bermuda cruise trip.

The other port is known as St. George port. It is a historical port and attracts large numbers of tourists. Then there is the third port
at King's Wharf. This port has museums
galleries and popular restaurants
which makes it a famous cultural hub. Bermuda cruises often have a large number of tourists who often make return visits to Bermuda. This indicates the island’s popularity.

However
as it is a small island
restrictions are in place concerning the maximum number of cruise liners that can land here. Check out the limit before you book a Bermuda cruise. The bookings can be done online or over the telephone. There are many cruise liners to choose from. Your choice of a cruise liner depends on your budget and the kind of vacation you are looking to take. There are luxury liners for those who want to splurge
and cheaper liners for those on a tighter budget.

Amenities On Common Cruise Ships

Are you interested in taking a cruise? If so
you are not alone. Each year a large number of individuals consider vacationing aboard a cruise ship. If you have never been on a cruise ship before
you may be wondering what activities
facilities
and services can be found onboard. The activities found onboard a cruise ship will vary from ship to ship
but many cruise ships have a number of activities and services in common.

Some of the most well-known facilities found on cruise ships are dining halls
restaurants
and cafeterias. Large cruise ships may offer a number of onboard dining facilities. It is important to note that many of these dining facilities are considered upscale restaurants. In addition to a sit-down restaurant
there area usually a number of small eateries located onboard. Elegant dining restaurants are popular among cruisers. To ensure that you are able to enjoy an elegant meal
you are encouraged to schedule a reservation as soon as you board the ship.

Aside from dining facilities
bars and dancehalls are also found on most cruise ships. As with most of the bars and dancehalls found on land
there may be age restrictions in place. If you are traveling with your family
they may have to complete other activities while you enjoy the nightlight over the seas. If this should occur
you are in luck because most cruise ships have daycare centers and other activities geared towards children of all ages.

When it comes to placing your child in the care of a ship’s daycare center
you are urged to quickly familiarize yourself with the staff. This familiarization may help to calm your nerves. It is also important to note that cruise ship employees are often closely monitored
highly educated
and properly trained. While it may be difficult at first
you should feel comfortable leaving your child in the care of a cruise ship childcare worker.

Childcare is ideal for smaller children; however
if you are traveling with a teenager
daycare may not be an option. Swimming pools
libraries
video arcades
and movie theaters can often be found on cruise ships. Adult supervision is a policy that prevents children under a certain age from roaming freely around the ship.

Teenagers may be able to visit these facilities without adult supervision. Each cruise ship is likely to have different adult supervision policies. You are encouraged to review these policies before purchasing your tickets.

In addition to the above mentioned bars and dancehalls
gaming halls or casinos can be found on most cruise ships. As with gambling on land
there are age limits on those that can gamble aboard a cruise ship. Popular gambling activities include slots
blackjack
poker
and much more. Many onboard casinos are open for business twenty-four hours a day. Gambling is a popular cruise ship pastime. If you are booking a cruise just to gamble
you may want to further explore the gambling options aboard each ship.

Cruise ship operators know that many travelers take a cruise to escape their daily routines. Unfortunately for some
one routine that cannot be left behind is exercise. That is why almost all cruise ships have onsite fitness centers and fully equipped gyms. These gyms are often similar
and sometimes even better
than the gyms found in your hometown. In addition to a fitness center
a large number of cruise ships have jogging tracks.

If a particular activity or event is the only reason why you are interested in booking a cruise
you are urged to physically check for that event or activity before making your reservation. The above mentioned services
facilities
and activities are found on a number of popular cruise lines. These cruise lines are likely to include
but are not limited to
Carnival Cruise Lines
Paradise Cruises
Royal Caribbean
and Celebrity Cruises. With the click of a mouse or a toll free phone call
you can easily determine if your favorite activities can be found aboard the cruise ship of your choice.

The biggest advantage is that the majority of your needs are taken care of. Most all inclusive cruises cover food
drinks
and entertainment. If you plan to drink a large amount of alcohol or feasting on the amazing onboard food

if the cruise ship allows it.

the entertainment is often limited. It is likely that you will gain free admission into a dance or ball
but you will not be able to gamble free of charge.

To find out whether or not you will save money aboard an all inclusive cruise ship
you should estimate your cost of food
drinks
and entertainment aboard a traditional cruise. By comparing the two
you can determine which cruise package offers the better deal.

All About Cruise Ships

Saturday 15 August 2009

Cruise ships are rated on a 100 point scale. They need to maintain a health score higher than 86 out of 100. Cruise ships are a great location to have your next vacation. If given the opportunity
many parents would choose to take a cruise alone. Cruise ships are very safe as well. They are equipped with life boats
life jackets
emergency personnel
doctors
and firemen all on the cruise ship.

Cruise ships are like floating resorts with all the choices fine resorts have to offer. You can be by yourself and lie back in a lounge chair
breathe in the sea air
soak up the sun
read good books
or watch the ever-changing view. Cruise ships are required to follow strict environmental regulations that ensure that treated sewage and wastewater from showers
sinks and kitchen galleys are discharged properly at designated offshore perimeters. In fact
cruise line waste management is so highly regarded that cruise lines are often consulted by state governments on pollution abatement and sewage control. Cruise ships are like floating resorts with all the amenities fine resorts have to offer.

Passengers are invariably assigned to lifeboats or similar survival craft. The total capacity of all the survival craft on board will exceed the total number of persons on the vessel. Passengers become friends; they are never just cabin numbers. Unlike other larger ships
they are proud of the intimate world they offer
where modern-day conveniences sail in harmony with traditional values.

Statistically
cruise ships are safer than hotels and resorts when it comes to fires and violent crime. However
it is in your best interest not to abandon common sense just because you board a cruise ship for a wonderful vacation. Staterooms will receive upgraded soft goods
Shear Butter bathroom amenities from L'Occitane
flat screen TVs and DVD/CD players
and Bose Sound Docks for use with iPods
which can be borrowed at no charge from reception. Wireless connectivity in public areas is promised for all three ships.

Staterooms on many ships are even equipped with televisions. While most ships now have telephones in passenger cabins
you can also call someone on shore through the ship's radio operator while at sea. Staterooms on all of today's modern cruise ships are equipped with satellite televisions and in some cases in-cabin internet connections. And
you can make phone calls from most ports.

Everything you've heard about cruise ship dining is true. At each meal
you'll find a varied selection of appetizers
salads

main courses and desserts. Everything you've heard about cruise ship dining is true. At each meal

Alicante is more than merely a runway

Alicante is perhaps best known as the gateway to the Costa Blanca
famed more for its airport than for the tourist trapping provided by more familiar neighbours
Benidorm and Denia. Most visitors to Alicante use the town as an arrival and departure point
not stopping long enough to see what the area has to offer. But whilst the bright lights of the aforementioned neighbours beckon for most
Alicante is beginning to garner a reputation for having more to offer than the biggest airport for charter flights in Spain.

Alicante offers a more subtle break in the Costa Blanca. The beaches and coastal attractions remains constant in the region
but the area is slightly more laid back than its’ noisy neighbour. Alicante has moved upmarket in recent years with a multitude of exclusive restaurants and bars popping up around the marina and commercial port area. The boulevard meanders pleasantly past the marina and beachfront area which merges into the charming Old Quarter.

From a pleasant base in Alicante
Costa Blanca offers much to the more discerning tourist. The church at Altea is renowned and presents one of the most enduring and symbolic sights in the Costa Blanca. The regions old towns are typically a mix of traditional Christian and Moorish architecture with narrow
cobbled streets and plazas offering a pleasant atmosphere to while away the hours ( http://www.costablanca.org )

Further South lie Murcia and Valencia – a thriving modern city which has benefited from regeneration in recent years. Valencia is a cosmopolitan city which juxtaposes the traditional and modern features of Spain in miniature form.

Alicante provides the ideal base for exploration of the region. The town offers a fine tourism infrastructure itself but the best way to explore the Costa Blanca is by self drive. There are several options for those willing to travel out with Alicante to discover the Costa Blanca on their own terms. The reliable train service meanders up and down the coast
taking in Altea and Denia as well as the bright lights of Benidorm. For a more authentic experience
hire cars are readily available (http://www.easycar.com/aspx/car-hire/location/Alicante.aspx/EN ).

Driving in the region has much to offer with pleasant coastal roads allowing you to explore on your own terms. The roads are generally safe
but some of the more mountainous areas should be traversed with some additional caution.

When you have clocked up the miles and soaked in all that the region has to offer
Alicante provides a relaxed and pleasant base to unwind in. Unless you fancy a night on the town amid the bright lights of Benidorm
that is….

A Guide To Caribbean Cruises

Planning to go on a Caribbean cruise? You need to decide two things in advance – when you’re going and where. Read on for useful information to help you make those choices.

Many people say that the Caribbean islands are best enjoyed during summer
but keep in mind that Caribbean cruises during this time are usually jam packed. This is when families
tour groups
and even corporate assemblies prefer to visit the islands
so if you’re planning to join the pack
be sure to book your cruise in advance. The average cruise length is about seven days.

If you want to enjoy big discounts
though
then try Caribbean cruises during the fall. Rates are substantially lower (sometimes half the regular rate)
and you usually don’t need to wait in line for slots to free up.

When deciding between Eastern or Western Caribbean
your decision should depend on what you intend to do during the course of the cruise. As a general guide
you should go for a Western Caribbean cruise if you want to spend more time sailing (rather than going on land for other activities). Western Caribbean cruises start in either in New Orleans
Texas
or Florida
and then make their way to Palaya del Carmen in Mexico
the Caymans
Jamaica
the Dominican Republic
and Costa Rica
among many other destinations. There are many things to do in a Western Caribbean cruise
and toping the crowd favorite are tours of the Mayan ruins.

If you want to do more shopping
though
then you might enjoy an Eastern Caribbean cruise better. This way
you get to see the shopping spots and fantastic beaches of the Bahamas and Puerto Rico (among others).

If you can’t decide
it might be a good idea to buy guide books to Caribbean cruises. Many books offer you great advice on the itinerary and the cruise ship to tally with your goals and interests.

Many parents of small children find that their idea of a dream holiday differs somewhat from that of the children. For kids from tiny babies up to teenagers
the world of Disney holds an appeal that is universal. While this is great for the kids
and the parents would have a great time too
many adults would prefer to go on a relaxing cruise vacation. The luxury and opulence of this lifestyle appeals to many but when sacrifices are to be made
it is the parents who usually end up making them.

Disney
being the clever company that they are
have managed to provide both parents and children with their holiday of their dreams
combining the magical world of Disney characters with a cruise holiday. These Disney cruises offer families the best of both worlds and ensure that all of the members of the family have a holiday never to forget.

The Disney Cruises offer breaks from 3 to 7 nights in duration. These include a variety of off-shore and on-shore options and allow you to choose the cruise which is truly right for your family. The shorter 3 or 4 night cruises take in the Bahamas and call into port at Nassau and Disney’s own private island
Castaway Cay. The longer cruises of 7 nights offer you the choice of eastern or Western Caribbean seas and islands but whichever you choose you can be confident that your views will be breathtaking and that you are almost certain to experience the beautiful sunshine that this part of the world is famous for.

In between the island exploring that these cruises offer you
you will be aboard a truly spectacular cruise liner. There is no need to worry about what you will do to occupy your time when sailing as there is a whole host of activities available for all the family. Activity groups are provided for children through to teenagers
and these groups are divided into ages so that you can be sure the activities on offer will stimulate and entertain your child
whatever their age. Disney cruises even offer parents their own club which is just for adults
allowing them to spend some quality time away from the children whilst remaining confident in the knowledge that they are being cared for by fully qualified staff. Activities available just for the adults include a spa and salon
nightclub and adult-only restaurant.

Family time is also catered for onboard the cruise liner. Live entertainment is provided daily
beginning with a Welcome Aboard show and ending your cruise with a Magical Farewell. In between you can be sure to be introduced to all of your favorite Disney characters and songs in shows which live up to and exceed the reputation Disney has for superb live entertainment.

The only problem you will have when it comes to food is deciding which restaurant to eat in. Catering for all tastes and palates
the cruises offer an exciting variety of menus and world cuisine. This gives everyone a real opportunity to try something new and the exceptional chefs on board will ensure that it is all prepared to the highest standard. Only the finest ingredients are selected for every dish
as you would expect from Disney.

With so much to see and do on a Disney cruise
you will have very little time to spend in your room and when you return there you will want to fall straight to sleep so that you can be up and ready for your adventure the next day. However
you can rest assured that the same attention to detail is found in the rooms as it is everywhere else on the cruise. When booking
you can select the type of room you require and you can be certain that it will exceed your expectations.

6 Reasons why a cruise is such a fine budget vacation

A cruise ship provides a great
one price
vacation
and one of the main attractions to booking a cruise ship is that just about everything is included in the price.

When many people think about a budget vacation
they picture an intrepid traveler in a roach infested hotel room eating stale sandwiches and riding around on the city bus. However
one of the best ways to save money on a vacation is also one of the most luxurious and most thrilling – the cruise vacation.

Cheap Accommodation
In addition to a cheap place to stay
a cruise also offers unlimited food
including many amazing buffets that are open 24 hours a day
7
days a week. In addition
the food on cruise vacation ships are often better-quality to those in all but the best land locked restaurants
and once again
the food is included in the price.

Traveling Off-season
Of course
it is possible to save money by traveling in the off-season
and this can often be a great plan. For instance
even though it is the middle of the winter and most people are not thinking about vacations where you are
it may be warm and tempting in many tropical cruise ship destinations.

It is important
however to check out the local weather
and to avoid the rainy season in the destinations you are considering. Steering clear of hurricanes
tropical downpours and other weather problems can help you get the most out of your cruise ship.

Cabins
If you have never taken a cruise ship before
it is a good idea to get advice from those who have experienced cruising. These people can give valuable insight on the best balance of cost and comfort for your first cruise ship experience.

The location of the cabin is another important consideration when booking a cruise ship. The interior cabins on the lower parts of the ship are generally the least costly
while the higher
larger cabins with ocean views are the most expensive.

Discounts and Cheap Cruise ship Deals
It is not always necessary to shop early
of course. Cruise ship lines have been known to offer some fantastic discounts at the last minute in order to move unsold cabins or avoid leaving with a less than full passenger load.

There are many last minute travel newsletters that provide details on these types of cruise ship deals
and these last minute travel deals are a big hit with retirees and others with the time to see the world.

Food and Gym
After eating all that food
you will probably feel the need to work out
and the cost of the cruise vacation also typically includes unlimited use of the gym
the weight room and the sports locations. While many hotels tack on a surcharge for the use of the hotel gym
with a cruise vacation it is generally included.

Shipboard Entertainment
The cost of a cruise vacation also includes all shipboard entertainment and classes. The entertainment options of a cruise vacation are often one of the best parts of the experience
and many cruises offer such things as movie nights
theatres
spas
nightclubs
discos
and even casinos.

There are also some great classes offered by cruise lines
in everything from origami to bridge to ballroom dancing. And again
these classes and entertainment options are included in the price you pay for the cruise.

Among the only things that are not included in the typical cruise vacation are alcoholic beverages and shore excursions. Many of the higher priced cruises even include these extras. If the shore excursions and drinks are not included
be sure to get a price list for shore excursions and drinks.

It is often possible to save money on shore excursions while on a cruise vacation by booking the tours locally at portside instead of going with the cruise line. Just be sure
however that the book it yourself excursion will get you back to the ship on time.

For all these reasons
cruise vacation can be among the best
and most economical
of all vacation opportunities. The ability to enjoy a week or two week cruise vacation at one low price is one more reason to love cruising.

Spectacular 5 Country Scandinavian Cruise on Costa s Atlantica

I’ve cruised dozens of ships on various lines and in my opinion this is as good as it gets on a mega-liner of 2200+ passengers with 920 crew. Costa’s Atlantica was a floating palace of art deco furnishings
marble inlaid floors and millions of dollars invested in original works of art. It exceeded my expectations. Also I normally loose weight on cruises shunning the ships artificial fare. This time I over indulged on varied menus of fresh food. I ate enough prosciutto and ice cream to last a decade. The Italian accented cuisine was prepared by Euro-chefs and culinary graduates of the world famous Chaine des Rotisseurs.

We had an awesome group of 60 who blended harmoniously. No love connections occurred (that I know of)
but friendships developed as we bonded on our AFS private shore excursions and parties onboard. This group was blessed throughout with the best weather the Baltic region could ever provide - 68บ daily and no rain. The First Officer said “this was the best weather of the summer.”

Each country visited was a lesson in culture and history. We saw an eyeful along our 1987 nautical miles. In Copenhagen Denmark - with it’s Mermaid
Stockholm Sweden – the archipelago referred to as “Venice of the North”
Helsinki Finland – so friendly
modern and clean
Grand St. Petersburg Russia where we squeezed in a full power tour of the Hermitage
palaces
onion domed churches
canals and an evening ballet. Our final port was charming Tallinn Estonia where the entire walled Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was like walking through a fairytale.

For our days at sea there was never a dull moment with 3 pools
shops
casino
luxurious spa and contests with the crew. The 2 story gym was so high tech that I didn’t know how to turn on the equipment
so the only exercise I got was jumping to conclusions. The midnight buffets were the most magnificent I’ve ever witnessed with countless ice sculptures. There was a house baked out of bread and piano shaped from white chocolate.

On our last night we attempted to pack all our trinkets collected: faberge egg
Russian nesting dolls
Swedish crystal
Finish glassware
Nordic pewter
lingonberry jams
amber jewelry
hand knit sweaters and a million T-shirts. Many things such as our fur hats may end up in a garage sale some day
but the bargaining sure was fun.

We tasted just an appetizer of this 5 country smorgasbord but leave perfectly satisfied. As I say Bon Voyage to this unique part of this world
I am able to remiss another journey well done.
